Women's Wedding Ring Trends

TRENDS IN WOMEN'S WEDDING RINGS

Trends in women's wedding rings have always changed slightly from year to year, but in the last five years trends have really undergone some significant changes. Women now expect different things than they have in the past, a sign that things really are changing. Who is ultimately responsible for the trends in wedding rings is unknown, but women are looking for different things than they were even five years ago. Jewelers and celebrities seem to sort of set a new trend and consumers run with it.

Wedding Ring Metals

The biggest change in women's wedding rings is the color of the metal used. Yellow gold used to account for over ninety percent of wedding rings, but now, yellow gold accounts for only forty to sixty percent of wedding rings. This depends on the market of course because some jewelers say they rarely sell yellow gold. Platinum has quickly become the most popular metal for wedding rings although it is more expensive, and the public is buying it as fast as they can get it. This trend is expensive, as platinum usually is at least twice as expensive as yellow gold. Those who cannot afford the platinum wedding rings are opting for white gold, which looks the same to an unpracticed eye. Yellow gold has become less and less common over the last five years, though many jewelers insist that it will make a comeback. Of course, the popularity of platinum and white gold for the past few years will make it classic for all time.

Big Diamonds

Another trend in women's wedding rings is big diamonds! Wedding rings used to have a quarter to three quarters of a carat diamond weight in them, and now the diamonds are much bigger. Most women are insisting on diamonds at least three quarters of a carat, yet a carat or more are much more common. The bigger the better seems to be the trend with diamonds right now! For the first time, many girls have larger wedding rings that their mother's do which typically wasn't the case in the past. Big diamonds are in, and this trend doesn't look like it's going anywhere anytime soon.

Simple Beauty

Streamlined and asymmetrical wedding rings are also very in right now. Women are looking for sleek looking rings that have a balance and simple beauty to them. These are typically not the huge diamonds mentioned above, but even those rings have a more balanced look about them. Balancing large diamonds with smaller ones, bezel cuts, and streamlined settings are all very popular. The streamlined look is not only beautiful, but gives the ring a very classy look. This is another trend that doesn't seem to be going anywhere anytime soon as the clean classy look is attractive to most women and stands the test of time.

Colored Diamonds

Colored diamonds are also currently a trend for those who can afford them. Pink and yellow diamonds seem to be more popular than the others. A lot of people don't have these as they are typically very expensive, but many celebrities have brought these colored beauties the attention they so deserve. It's usually a woman who really likes jewelry and doesn't mind attention being drawn to it that will most want a colored diamond. There's no telling how long this trend will last, as there has long been a subculture of wealthy people who have had a special desire for colored diamonds.

Engraving

Intricate engraving has also become quite popular in recent years. The engraving has been very similar to the engraved vintage wedding rings of times past; the engraving can be quite simple or very flowery and extensive. This seems to be a trend that is coming back, and will likely stick around for a while. Technology has added to the attraction of engraving. Technology now allows a small message to be engraved on the wedding rings. Not only is the message personal from the bride to the groom or vice versa, it is engraved in the handwriting of the person who wrote it. This is unique and not every jeweler can do it, but it's a timeless message for sure! What better way to express your love for someone than by engraving it on a ring for him or her to wear for all time in your handwriting?

Yellow Diamonds

Yellow diamonds are the current trend for women's wedding rings for a second wedding. Of course, not all women follow this trend, but it's just something you can do that is a little bit different from your first wedding. Yellow diamonds are also very trendy right now, so they're fun to consider no matter what your reasoning.

No Surprises

Women also choose wedding rings now, in addition to engagement rings. Women used to be surprised with engagement or wedding rings, but now they tend to pick out their rings or tell their men exactly what it is they want. This is a new trend that ensures a woman gets the wedding ring that she wants, and it also takes a lot of the pressure off the man because at the very least he knows she'll like the ring. This trend is a break from tradition, but just seems to make it a whole lot easier on everyone involved.

Show Your Individuality

Trends in wedding rings seem to change all the time, allowing us to show a bit of our individuality through our jewelry. Every piece of jewelry is an opportunity to display a little piece of us on the outside, and wedding rings aren't any different. So, go with the trends or don't, just be sure you pick wedding rings that tell more about who you are than the time frame it was purchased.
